Public university Lucian Blaga Din Sibiu (LBUS) will be the first Romanian university to accept cryptocurrency payments, specifically for admission fees.
The institution stated that its student body of over 11,000 will be able to make payments in digital currency from July onwards. Students may be able to pay for their admission fees using Elrond (EGLD), which the university proceeds to convert to Ieu.
“Our university has been and will continue to be a supporter of the community and local business, and the decision to develop this partnership with Elrond is part of this strategy,” said Professor Sorin Radu, the university rector.
According to the university’s website, there will be no surcharge added to payments made in crypto.
Elrond is a Romania-based blockchain system developed by the people of Sibiu, boasting scalability, high speed, and low transaction costs. Some huge changes have been made to Elrond, the launch of Elrond mainnet being one of the notable examples.
