Co-founder of Polkadot Gavin Wood is resigning from his position as CEO of blockchain infrastructure provider Parity Technologies, the development company behind the Polkadot ecosystem.
Wood admitted that he had no interest in becoming CEO in a statement released publicly on October 21. Although he could do so in the short term, he did not see himself in that role as one where he would experience lifelong joy.
“Anyone who has cooperated with me understands where my heart belongs,” said Wood. He finds his true calling as a mere architect, designer, coder, and thinker, and he works best asynchronously, like many others.
Wood declared in his statement that Björn Wagner, another Parity co-founder, would take over as the company’s CEO. Wood also disclosed that he would continue to maintain the majority of the company’s stock and assume the role of chief architect.
Wood’s new position will involve making Polkadot and Web3 “more relevant to large swathes of the population.” He will initiate this project by partnering with the community to establish a number of chain-integrated social components that he feels are crucial to a bona fide Web3 platform.
Wood, Aeron Buchanan, Jutta Steiner, Ken Kappler, and TJ Saw established Parity as EthCore in late 2015; one year later, Björn Wagner joined the company as a co-founder. After its premiere in 2020, the Polkadot ecosystem has gone up significantly, which led many industry analysts to consider it a prospective contender to Ethereum for smart contracts.
