Ethereum-based wallet MetaMask launched its Version 8 wallet on July 2 that comes with a whole package of new updates focused on improving privacy and security safeguards, but at the same time also making the wallet interface and code more accessible for both users and developers. Commonly used as an extension on Google Chrome, MetaMask’s user base surpassed 1 million users this year in February.
The update boasts “unparalleled privacy” as MetaMask V8 allows users to manage several accounts on the same application without having to worry about sharing all your data across different sites. Users can now customize their settings to tag selected accounts onto chosen websites, which helps to prevent exposing all wallet details or information without user permission.
This mechanism that checks on user permissions is under a larger permissions protocol MetaMask is developing and enhancing in the future, called the EIP2255 Permissions System. Further strengthening security on this web-based, JavaScript project is MetaMask’s new security tool, LavaMoat.
Web3 developers will also find it easier to integrate the MetaMask services with their products and services, especially with the introduction of a new API that facilitates the decryption and encryption of messages and an “onboarding library” that directs users back to the main application after being led out of it to create a wallet on MetaMask externally, thereby ensuring a complete conversion channel on these products.
