Global securities index publisher MSCI is considering launching indexes for cryptocurrency assets.
CEO Henry Fernandez announced the plans when speaking at a Clubhouse event organized by venture capital company Andreessen Horowitz. He said that MSCI has been discussing with experts and is looking to launch crypto indexes.
He has yet to reveal the timeline and the details on what assets any index would keep track of.
MSCI has been aiming to expand its offerings. Fernandez stated that there are some opportunities in the private credit and environmental, social and governance (ESG) area for the company.
The company launches popular indexes for global equities and other securities. Asset managers and investors use them to guide the allocation of $14.5 trillion in assets globally as of end-2020.
