In addition to testing a cryptocurrency wallet, South Korean tech giant LG Electronics has harnessed the Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) network to bring NFTs to televisions.
The LG Art Lab NFT marketplace is now up and accessible in the US on the company’s TVs running webOS 5.0 or later. According to the company, the NFT platform enables users to purchase, sell, and display their Hedera-powered NFTs from their screens.
The electronics giant stated that the LG Art Lab Drops feature on the platform profiles artists and previews upcoming works. Users are able to anticipate mint dates via the real-time “Live Drops” countdown, allowing them to obtain newly dropped NFTs.
Eight months prior to this announcement, LG Electronics said that it intended to add NFTs into its smart TV in order to “redefine viewing and user experience.”
Besides the incorporation of NFTs into smart TVs, LG Electronics is also conducting a developer beta test for Wallypto, a new cryptocurrency wallet software.
The company has registered the app’s name and logo “with domestic and foreign patent offices,” according to News1 and the Shina Ilbo, and plans to launch officially before the year ends.
The company also said that it is currently finalising the features of the wallet but stated that it will also be based on Hedera. According to LG, Wallypto will likely also work with NFTs. The business might potentially try to link the wallet with ThinQ, its rapidly expanding IoT platform.
Notably, LG is providing these functionalities through the obscure Hedera network. Hedera markets itself as a blockchain substitute and makes use of its own hashgraph technology, which is a different type of distributed ledger technology.
