Indian cricket icon of yesteryear Sachin Tendulkar has made a strategic investment in cricket NFT platform Rario. Tendulkar, who is nick-named the God of Cricket, is hugely popular in cricket-playing nations with tens of millions of fans. The new association will see Tendulkar’s collectibles featuring on Rario’s marketplace – The OGs, media reports said.
In a press release, Rario announced that besides being a strategic investor, Sachin will be a brand ambassador of the company as well.
“Although he retired long ago, we at Rario have come up with something that would give you the feeling of reliving the legend! With Sachin joining Rario as a brand ambassador, we are very soon coming up with a special pack drop featuring his player cards!,” Rario said in its PR on Medium.
Singapore-based Rario which counts Dream Capital, Kingsway Capital, and Presight Capital as investors in the company did not disclose the size of Tendulkar’s investment. Announcing the development on Twitter, Rario said, “We’re brimming with pride to announce that the ‘God of Cricket’ has chosen Rario. Stay tuned for special Master Blaster-themed Packs coming soon!”
In April, Rario secured $120 million in Series A funding led by Dream Capital, an investment arm of Dream Sports. The partnership allows Rario exposure to Dream Sports’s 140 million users across various sports platforms. Rario has so far signed up contracts with cricket bodies and leagues such as Cricket Australia, the Australian Cricketers’ Association, the Lanka Premier League, the Caribbean Premier League, and Abu Dhabi T10 League Legends League Cricket.
