Eminem and Snoop Dogg, the iconic rappers of the NFT space, will be holding a performance inspired by Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs and Otherside metaverse at MTV’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Sunday.
The Otherside is a joint venture between NFT investing powerhouse Animoca Brands and BAYC of Yuga Labs.
In collaboration with Yuga Labs, the international rap icon will give Otherside significant mainstream exposure by making the VMAs stage fit the theme of Otherside’s most recent hit joint single ‘From the D 2 the LBC.’

Although, there are not many specific details about the performance at this point in time.
Additionally, the VMAs have included ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ category to its annual awards, seemingly sending a message to the music industry that Metaverse performances deserve greater attention. Justin Bieber, Twenty One Pilots, and Rift Tour (featuring Ariana Grande) are among the nominees for the award.
The VMAs believe that they will be able to boost their diminishing viewership numbers by embracing the Metaverse. The awards have experienced a steady loss of viewers since 2011 when the viewership peaked at 12.4 million.
The 900,000 viewers who tuned in live to watch the awards on MTV was the 8th year in a row that the viewer number has dropped.
This single is the two famed rappers’ first collaborative work since 2002, for which they are nominated for the “Best Hip Hop” award.
Both Snoop Dogg and Eminem are collectors of BAYC NFTs, and the song’s music video extensively utilized the materials from the NFT collection.
Furthermore, Snoop Dogg has recently made an appearance in an animated video of Bored Apes and other NFTs, including Esther Anaya’s EDM single, BAYC.
On December 31st, Eminem paid 123.45 ETH for a hip-hop clothed Bored Ape — joining his other 28 NFTs under the alias Shady_Holdings.
Snoop Dogg is considered a much more active participant in the NFT space, with “The Doggies” collection of NFTs and the purchase of a Bored Ape on December 22, thanks to a collaboration with The Sandbox.
