Credit Suisse, in collaboration with the Swiss Football Association (SFA), is set to launch an exclusive non-fungible token (NFT) collection that aims to support women’s football. The collection will showcase a series of digital portraits featuring members of the Swiss Women’s National Team. All proceeds generated from the sale of these NFTs will be donated to the team, as well as organizations dedicated to empowering female football players, media reports said.
The NFTs, totaling 756 in number, will be minted on the Ethereum blockchain and made available for purchase starting from July 11. Interested buyers can access the collection through CSX, Credit Suisse’s digital banking application. The NFTs will be offered in three different packages, ranging in price from 150 to 10,000 Swiss francs (approximately $167 to $11,000). Each package will come with its own set of benefits, such as a physical artwork counterpart, an opportunity to meet the players, and a signed jersey.
Sandra Caviezel, the head of partnerships and sponsorship at Credit Suisse, expressed her anticipation of using NFTs as a means to drive the growth of women’s football in Switzerland. She emphasized that the funds generated through this initiative will directly support the women’s national team and contribute to projects aimed at promoting girls’ football and nurturing young talent.
The convergence of sports and NFTs continues to gain momentum as mainstream brands and teams embrace Web3 technology. Women’s football, in particular, has emerged as an area of significant interest. Just last month, FC Barcelona, a prominent Spanish football club, partnered with the popular NFT collection known as World of Women to release a digital artwork paying tribute to their star player, Alexia Putellas. These developments signify the growing recognition and support for women’s football within the NFT ecosystem.
