Axie Infinity (AXS), a Play-to-earn (P2E) blockchain game, has removed the entirety of token rewards from its classic game mode — in order to bring more of its users’ attraction to its new game mode, Axie Infinity Origin.
The Axie Infinity team made an announcement that Smooth Love Potions (SLP) no longer can be minted on its classic mode from August 12 onwards.
The SLP rewards will be moved to the new game mode, but within 30 days minting will be halted for the team to monitor any potential bugs, exploits, and abuses.
Aside from this, the team emphasized that this will help “balance the SLP economy” with the migration from classic to the new game mode.
Besides the removal of the classic mode’s reward system, the team also put thought into adding more utility of SLP, such as allowing players to use SLP in the new game mode to create various in-game boosts like runes and charms.
In an earlier attempt to stabilize the SLP token’s economy back in February, the team already removed the adventure mini-game SLP rewards and daily quest rewards.
Although the Axie Infinity project’s crypto token has underperformed during the crypto winter, the project’s NFT transaction volume has risen by 205% in July. The project is “healing”, according to Jeff Zirlin, co-founder of the project, alluding to the NFT land staking feature of the game.
