The Australian Football League (AFL) has recently launched its very first limited-edition non-fungible token (NFT) drop on Wednesday. The drop has proven to be popular enough to be sold out within 12 hours.
The football league released “Ripper Skipper 2022” on August 17 through its AFL Mint program, which enables those in the “allowlist” to purchase one of the 3,800 packs reserved for the drop.
“Through our AFL Mint brand, we will launch exciting new moments across our Men’s and Women’s competitions, plus celebrate past greats and other product releases that will bring a unique fan experience we haven’t seen before.”
Kylie Rogers, Executive General Manager of Customer, and Commercial at AFL
The project is said to have raised over $130,000 in USDC, with the packs carrying a retail price of 34.39 USDC each.
78 significant moments and highlights from the 2021 Season are featured in Ripper Skipper 2022, in both video and audio form. Three “moments” in three separate rarity tiers – common, deluxe, and ovation – are included in each pack.
Participants have a 10% chance of getting the coveted AFL Mint Genesis Ball.
Although the initial mint was completely sold out in hours, the general public will be able to access another drop on August 24.
The AFL has joined other international sporting codes that have ventured into Web3 space by their launch of Ripper Skipper 2022 NFTs.
