Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Chinese tech giant Alibaba, is teaming up with Ethereum rival Avalanche to venture into the metaverse. The partnership aims to create Cloudverse, a virtual space for businesses and brands that will allow Alibaba Cloud’s millions of clients to deploy custom metaverses and unlock new dimensions for consumers.
Under the collaboration, Alibaba Cloud will provide the digital infrastructure while Avalanche, along with the Metaverse Union of Architects decentralized autonomous organization, will offer metaverse-building solutions. The ETH challenger will also provide support on visuals, meta-economics, interactive functions, events, and continued operations for businesses on the Cloudverse.
Avalanche says that users will be able to launch their customized metaverse spaces as soon as a month after initial outreach, offering millions of consumer-facing businesses a quick, low-overhead, one-stop gateway into Web3.
According to John Wu, president of Ava Labs, the partnership will change how enterprises create value and seize the opportunities of Web3, and he looks forward to seeing how businesses expand into the Cloudverse.
This isn’t the first time Avalanche and Alibaba Cloud have teamed up. The two companies formed a partnership in December 2022 that allowed developers to spin up AVAX validator nodes through Alibaba’s services.
With the latest collaboration, the companies are aiming to capitalize on the growing interest in the metaverse, a virtual world that allows users to interact with each other and with digital objects in a shared space.
