The buying and selling of bitcoin has become more accessible in the US than ever, all thanks to MoneyGram and its collaboration with bitcoin exchange and ATM operator Coinme.
New and existing Coinme users can expect to buy cryptocurrencies with cash or withdraw them from thousands of MoneyGram outlets scattered around the US, available in the coming weeks.
The companies plan to offer said services globally in the latter half of 2021.
This innovative partnership opens our business to an entirely new customer segment as we are the first to pioneer a crypto-to-cash model by building a bridge with Coinme to connect bitcoin to local fiat currency, said Alex Holmes, Chairman and CEO of MoneyGram.
Cryptocurrency has become increasingly accepted by the mainstream financial institutions, with PayPal allowing US users to trade and pay at millions of its merchants with cryptocurrency, as well as Mastercard and Visa offering crypto-related services.
